Hand Problems

It's all very well to do a regular manicure to keep your hands looking young and lovely, but that doesn't pull enough punches when you already have problems with your hands that you want to cure. I've listed the most common problems here, with ways for you to cure them at home, which may include at-home recipes or over-the-counter products, but I try to keep them natural and easy, and cost effective too! If you're having problems, scroll down the list and see if yours is here, try the remedy and let me know what you think! You can email me at info@everything-for-bathtime.com - also use this email address if you have a problem, not mentioned here, that you would like advice on, I will get back to you on this page, so please bookmark it!

Dry Hands
One of the most common problems I come across! There is plenty you can do, but the most important thing initially will be patience - it took time for your hands to get into this condition, it will take time to improve them!

hand cream from Just Natural Skincare Firstly, whenever possible, wear gloves for household chores, especially when dealing with either water or chemicals - or both! The more often your hands get a soaking the drier they will get. Always wash your hands after going to the bathroom - then add hand cream - every time! In fact the answer for you is to invest in a tube of good quality hand cream that you can keep with you at all times and each and every time your hands get wet, dry them thoroughly and apply a generous amount of hand cream. Last thing at night, before you go to sleep, apply again so that the cream can work whilst you rest - do this for as long as it takes!
I recommend: Natural Intensive Hand Cream from Just Natural Skincare $21.00 for 2 oz - this organic hand cream nourishes and smooths even the most fatigued skin for a smoother, younger look. Protects against dryness and restores moisture, improving skin's resilience, radiance and natural balance. 5 star!

ORGANIC LOTIONS

Rough Hands
Gardeners usually suffer with this one! I've got a fabulous recipe for a hand scrub: use the scrub, then dry your hands completely before adding hand lotion.

Mix half a cup of sugar, 3 table spoons of olive oil, and 3 table spoons of water in a bowl or other container until fully blended (no lumps, etc).

Add a couple drops of your favourite scent or essential oil to the sugar/oil/water mix and stir (optional).

Apply mixture to your hands and rub in a circular motion until you feel that you have achieved your ideal skin softness or until the sugar dissolves. Do not rub any further if your hands start to hurt or burn (don’t worry; this is probably not an allergic reaction to any of the materials, but instead from the rubbing of the grains of sugar).

Rinse your hands with water until you can no longer feel the grains of sugar.

Use this a few times a week if your hands are really bad, but keep in tune to what's happening with your hands: you should be removing the hard, dry skin, not the good skin, so if you feel any stinginess or develop sore patches, stop and just moisturise for a time!

Discoloured Finger Nails

nice, healthy nails Wearing nail polish can stop oxygen getting to your nails causing them to yellow slightly, also gardening and decorating, amongst other things, can do the same. To bring back a nice healthy, white look try this simple recipe at home: you need a denture tablet, 1-2 cups of warm water and a few drops of essential oil of your choice.

First of all saturate the denture tablet with essential oil. Then take a small bowl and pour lukewarm water in it. Put the denture tablet in it and let it dissolve.

Soak your fingertips in it for 10 minutes. Dry hands and apply hand cream.

Stop Nail Biting!

Nail-biting is the habit of biting or chewing your own finger or toe nails. It's medical name is chronic onychophagia. Nail-biting can be a difficult habit to break and it can affect people of all age groups. About half of all children and teenagers between the ages of 9 and 18 bite their nails, and almost everyone stops nail biting by the time they reach their thirties. There are a number of reasons why people bite their nails. It may be because they are:
Stressed
Excited
Nervous
Bored
Inactive

Often nail-biting is an unconscious habit - i.e. people don't even realise they are doing it. If you've tried everything and still find yourself biting your nails and want to improve the apprearance of your hands, click here:
